/Institute of Coding Summer School

The Institute of Coding (IoC) Summer School at Exeter is an opportunity to enhance your digital skills at a summer school designed to introduce you to the fundamentals of computer programming and social data analytics. The school seeks to attract those undergraduate and postgraduate students who may not yet have had the opportunity to learn these skills (e.g. Humanities and Social Sciences).

The Summer School is structured in 3 separate 1-week blocks to support the development of students’ computer thinking and social data analytics skills.


Block 1: Coding Boot Camp
24th – 28th June 2019
A one week intensive boot camp to boost your computational skills and learn how to formulate and solve problems by using algorithmic thinking and collaborative programming. Block 1 will be taught using Python.


Block 2 : Social Data Analytics
01st – 05th July 2019
This week explore social data analysis, including statistical concepts and data visualisation. Students will learn how to handle data and code using R.


Block 3: Artificial Intelligence
08th – 12th July 2019​
Discover more about programming, machine learning and AI with Python in this one week course. Students attending Block 3 will either need to have attended block 1 and 2, or have some existing programming skills.

Deadline for applications is 2nd April 2019.
