This newsletter provides information about:

  • The launch of Your Digital Pathway – a new, free introductory level course that is designed to help individuals take the first step towards building their digital skills 
  • Upcoming IoC-led Skills Bootcamps, which can help people prepare for entry or mid-level employment in tech in just 16 weeks or less 
  • How employers can hire new, skilled talent from the IoC’s programmes

Get the digital skills to return to education, work or start a business online

Your Digital Pathway, a new, free digital skills course from Santander – developed in partnership with the University of Bath-based Institute of Coding and the award-winning TechUP initiative based at Durham University – is now open for applications. 

The course has been developed to support individuals who want to take the first step on the pathway to building their digital skills and can help people return to or start education, work, or start a business online. The course is taught at an introductory level and includes approximately 8 hours of content, which can be completed at your own pace.

Everyone who completes the course will receive a certificate of achievement and will also be entered into a prize draw for the chance to win one of 88 Santander grants worth up to £2,500 (Ts&Cs apply), available to use on the tailored Santander Aspire webstore to purchase a range of items including laptops, tablets and Chromebooks.

Skills Bootcamps are flexible courses of up to 16 weeks, giving people the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills and fast track to an interview with a local employer. Learn more about the IoC-led Skills Bootcamps.

There are several Skills Bootcamps starting this spring and summer, with our partners launching more later in 2022. Visit our course catalogue to search for upcoming Skills Bootcamps across all providers, regions and start dates.

Secure your FREE place

Skills Bootcamps will be provided at no cost for learners who meet the eligibility criteria and are accepted by a provider. 

Employers who wish to upskill existing employees through the Skills Bootcamps will receive a 70% discount from standard programme fees.

Skills Bootcamp in Software Engineering/Development from Aston University (April start) 
This part-time, 12-week Skills Bootcamp starts in mid-April and is for people seeking to learn to programme as a route into a career in the tech industry. Find out more about this course and apply now


Skills Bootcamp in Creative Computing (UI/UX Design) from Bath Spa University (April start)
This 12-week programme is for people who would like to gain new and additional skills to embark on a career within the creative industries. This online course is open to anyone aged 19+ living in the South West region.  Apply for your free spot!


Skills Bootcamp in Cloud Computing and Data Analytics from Edge Hill University (June start)
This 16-week Skills Bootcamp is designed to equip learners with the digital skills for data analytics and cloud computing and will provide learners with a pathway to employability through personal development and mentoring. Find out more about this course and apply for a June start.

Skills Bootcamp in Data Science (with Microsoft Certification) from Northumbria University (open for expressions of interest)
This Skills Bootcamp will start later this spring and teaches programming and data science skills within the context of industrial data. Alongside the core taught material, this Skills Bootcamp also comes with free Microsoft Certification. Check out this course and register your expression of interest.


Skills Bootcamp in Software Development (with Microsoft Certification) from Northumbria University (open for expressions of interest)
Starting later this spring, this Skills Bootcamp is for anyone needing to acquire programming/ coding skills to make the move to the next stage in their career. The core learning material on this Skills Bootcamp is contextualised within the construction sector as it provides rich case studies of data analysis and application scripting tasks. Check out this course and leave your expression of interest.


Skills Bootcamps in Artificial Intelligence from Huddersfield University (September and November start dates) 
With start dates in September or November, this Skills Bootcamp will provide training in key aspects of how AI can be used to automate the operations of organisations and shape society in the future. Topics of study include data mining, machine learning, robotics and the legal, social, ethical and professional issues of AI and its implementation. Skills Bootcamps in Data Science, Software Engineering and Cyber Analysis from University of Gloucestershire (Applications are opening soon) 
If you are looking for something for later this year, the University of Gloucestershire has three Skills Bootcamps starting in November 2022. Opening for registration in summer 2022, these 16-week Skills Bootcamps will be offered fully online. Learn more about these upcoming courses on our website.


Calling all employers – hire new Skills Bootcamp grads!

If you need to build your organisation’s tech talent, consider hiring new IoC Skills Bootcamp graduates in your entry to mid-level tech roles. Upskilled and reskilled candidates are a highly desirable option as they have an array of skills and strengths to offer employers.
