Skills Bootcamp overview

The Skills Bootcamp in Cloud Computing and Data Analytics is a level four-course designed to equip you with digital skills for data analytics and cloud computing (developing knowledge of data analytics, data mining, data migration, data capture, AI, machine learning, data modelling, visualisation, etc.) as well as providing you with the pathway to employability through personal development and mentoring.

 

On this course, you will gain knowledge of underpinning concepts of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Data Analytics as well as practical skills for generating, analysing, visualising, and interpreting data using various data repositories and other cloud-based technology. You will explore different programming languages and tools in the context of delivering data-driven solutions. This course will also provide you with general problem-solving skills, confidence building, and other personal development opportunities.

 

This 16-week course is divided into three terms and delivers an industry-informed curriculum. While the first term subjects introduce you to the fundamentals of data science and programming, the learning in the subsequent terms takes you to intermediate and advance levels of applied data analytics and cloud computing. There are four half-day online residentials built-in within the 16-week period that deliver sessions on confidence building, employability skills as well as hosting employer panels and industry guest speakers.

Who is this Skills Bootcamp for

This course is designed for people with very little or no prior knowledge of programming, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. The Skills Bootcamps is a 16-week flexible 100% online course, giving people the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills and dedicated help with identifying and applying for job interviews.

 

The Skills Bootcamp in Cloud Computing and Data Analytics programme is for aspiring data scientists and others with an interest in developing data analytics skills from people who are currently unemployed, employed and looking to upskill, and those in self-employment.

 

We welcome applicants from unrepresented communities in the Science and Technology sector such as women and people from Black and other ethnic minority groups.

 

This Skills Bootcamp is a suitable option for graduates in Computer Science seeking employment in the Digital Sector, learners will receive personalised employability support. It would also suit graduates from other courses who seek to explore a profession in the expanding field of data analytics.

 

The programme is supported by the DWP and is an option for people on Universal Credit.



Eligibility

Learners must:

  • Be aged 19+
  • Have the right to live and work in the UK
  • Agree to provide mandatory personal data and supplementary information on their employment outcomes for up to 8 months following completion of the Skills Bootcamp
  • Be looking for a new role, new opportunities or increased responsibility/promotion to a different role which utilises the skills acquired through their Skills Bootcamp

 

Be either

  • employed/self-employed, or
  • career changers/returners/redeployed, or
  • unemployed within the last 12 months

 

Employers will be able to send existing employees who meet the Skills Bootcamp eligibility requirements on this training at an impressive 70% discount. Interested employers should contact the individual Skills Bootcamp provider.

The learner requirements for this Skills Bootcamp programme are a minimum of five GCSE grades C – A* (4-9) or equivalent, including English and Maths, or Level 3 qualification (A level, BTEC, or equivalent). We will also consider learners with relevant skills, interests, work-related experience and those learners who have had a sustained period out of education or whose studies have been significantly disrupted who can demonstrate high motivation and commitment (evidence of motivation, knowledge, and commitment in your personal statement).

 

Our recruitment staff assess each application holistically and judge whether the applicant’s content will meet the demand of this level four Skills Bootcamp programme and whether their prior learning experience/qualifications have sufficiently prepared the applicant to progress on to the course they are applying for. We recognise a range of different qualifications and consider all aspects of your application, including context, your personal statement and CV.

What will I learn

Learners completing the Skills Bootcamp in Cloud Computing and Data Analytics programme will be introduced and progress in the following topics:

 

Term one:

  • Beginner’s Python
  • Fundamentals of Computer Science
  • Database Basics

Term two:

  • Introduction to Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
  • Cloud Computing Basics
  • Data Analytics – Natural Language Programme (NLP)

Term three:

  • Advanced Python
  • Advanced Data Science
  • Cloud Computing for Analytics

Across terms one, two, and three and a supporting period after the 14-week programme has finished:

  • Employability and Personal Development skills sessions delivery, and personalised support for learners in their quest to gain employment in the Digital Sector.

Creating pathways to employment

How has the Skills Bootcamp been designed/created with employer input?

Employers and professionals from the data science/AI industry are been consulted, and their advice, insights, and experience of working trends and practices have been integrated in the design of the programme. Valuable and essential skills, which will lead learners to employment in the digital sector and digital-based roles have been identified and codified into the architecture of the programme and its deliverable aims and objectives.

 

How are employers involved in the delivery of this Skills Bootcamp?

Employers and industry professionals will be involved in delivering residential sessions, workshops, offering mentoring/coaching sessions, and will be seeking to engage with learners to stimulate learner motivation and knowledge-based understanding of the kind of employability skills and attitudes digital industry sector employers are looking for. Guest speakers will address support services, soft skills, and employability topics. Each learner will receive employer-informed one-to-one mentoring to address areas of personal development and employability progress.

 

What are the routes to employment following successful completion?

A  learner completing the programme will have personalised support in helping them to secure employment in the digital sector and in the event of this not being achieved in the duration of the programme, learners will be signposted to further training and education possibilities. The unique level four Skills Bootcamp in Cloud Computing and Data Analytics will give the learner an ideal introduction into further options such as further or higher education routes, depending on the learner’s personal combined academic and work-related achievements.
