You’ll develop skills in digital marketing, UI/UX design and web development to build a portfolio that’ll showcase your new abilities.

Over the eight weeks you’ll work on live briefs, in groups and individually, to strengthen your problem solving skills, creativity, adaptability and resilience. These are all valuable skills that employers look for.

You’ll be supported through the course and for six months after by a personal employability coach from Catch22.

You’ll be given a one year membership to the British Computer Society, free of charge, as part of this course. This membership includes access to an industry mentor who will advise you on progressing into a career in tech and creative industries.

This course is part of Click Start, a nationwide training programme developed by the Institute of Coding (IoC), a national collaboration of universities, employers and charities and funded by Nominet – the public benefit company and guardians of the .UK namespace.

The programme, which launched in 2023, helps to tackle the UK’s digital skills gap by offering skills and training to more than 26,500 learners across the country who may not have previously had opportunities.

If you sign up to a Click Start programme, you’ll also get access to GetMyFirstDigitalJob, an online platform designed to help you find and land a digital job. It’s your new hub for jobs, support, and guidance for your digital career.

You’ll get access to job opportunities from employers looking for fresh talent, and a dedicated careers coach who’ll give you one-on-one support to guide you through your job search journey. There’s also learning modules to boost your employability skills in the areas you need them most, and exclusive live events where you can get your questions answered by experts from across the digital industry.

Click Start is designed to support under-represented groups. The aim is to give you the digital skills you need to open-up new opportunities and get better pay. Or simply do what you want to do in life.

For a FREE place, check if ALL of the following criteria apply to you:

  • You are aged 18-30.
  • You live near the West of England including Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, and  South Gloucestershire.
  • You have the right to work in the UK.

What Will I Learn?

With Click Start by Bath Spa University in Creative Digital Skills, you’ll develop skills in digital marketing, UI/UX design and web development. You’ll also work in groups on live briefs. This will strengthen your problem-solving skills, creativity, adaptability and resilience, which are all valuable skills in the workplace. You will also build a portfolio of work to show employers.

Within the web development part of the course, you’ll be introduced to web development, HTML and Further HTML. You’ll also have an introduction to CSS and Bootstrap.

For UX/UI, you’ll learn about the basics of UX/UI, and explore ideation, fundamentals of colour, typography and hierarchy. You’ll practice wireframing and prototyping, putting the digital tools you’ve learnt into practice.

For digital marketing, you’ll have an introduction to digital marketing and learn about Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and techniques to utilise it. You’ll also learn about social media marketing, including content and email marketing.

Teaching takes place Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 10am-1.30pm.

There are also online cohorts which are taught completely remotely. You’ll be taught by highly experienced tutors and also benefit from guest speakers and group exercises.

The next courses start on:

  • Tuesday 11 February 2025 for eight weeks, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 10am-1.30pm. In-person teaching will take place at Engine Shed, Bristol.
  • Tuesday 11 March 2025 for eight weeks, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 10am-1.30pm. All teaching will take place online.

You’ll be provided with six months of employability support from Catch22, including being signposted to opportunities for employment, self-employment, volunteering and further education.

At the end of the course you’ll receive a certificate of completion from Bath Spa University.
