The Click Start Peckham Digital Accelerator Zone (DAZ) is a collaboration with the UAL Creative Computing Institute (CCI), UKBlackTech, and the London Borough of Southwark. This programme is part of the nationwide Click Start training programme developed by the Institute of Coding (IoC) and funded by Nominet.

This flexible programme allows you to customise your learning journey by selecting from a range of topics. Explore in-demand skills including Web Development, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence, creating a tailored learning experience that aligns with your career goals. To help boost your employability skills there will also be mock interview workshops, networking events with industry professionals and sessions to help build your professional portfolio.

The aim of the DAZ is to educate and empower the next generation of tech talent within the local borough of Southwark and across South London. This transformative programme will enable you to become a catalyst for change within your local community, and the versatile toolkit of skills you gain will help kickstart your digital career. This is the perfect course for you if you have an enthusiasm for tech but are struggling to break into a tech career.

Our ultimate objective is to enable tech talent to use the skills acquired through our course to make an impact on the local economy and community.

This course is part of Click Start, a nationwide training programme developed by the Institute of Coding (IoC), a national collaboration of universities, employers and charities and funded by Nominet – the public benefit company and guardians of the .UK namespace.

The programme, which launched in 2023, helps to tackle the UK’s digital skills gap by offering skills and training to more than 26,500 learners across the country who may not have previously had opportunities.

If you sign up to a Click Start programme, you’ll also get access to GetMyFirstDigitalJob, an online platform designed to help you find and land a digital job. It’s your new hub for jobs, support, and guidance for your digital career.

You’ll get access to job opportunities from employers looking for fresh talent, and a dedicated careers coach who’ll give you one-on-one support to guide you through your job search journey. There’s also learning modules to boost your employability skills in the areas you need them most, and exclusive live events where you can get your questions answered by experts from across the digital industry.

Click Start is designed to support under-represented groups. The aim is to give you the digital skills you need to open-up new opportunities and get better pay. Or simply do what you want to do in life.

What will I learn

Web Development: Advanced Creative Coding (Fast Track – 4 days)

Application Deadline: 2 weeks before start date

Teaching Dates: 3rd March, 7th April, 14th July, 18th August 2025, online only

Teaching Times: daytime, 9.00am – 1.30pm, or 2.00 – 6.00pm

Teaching Schedule: 4 x 1-hour lectures, followed by 2-hour small group tutorials plus independent study

Content: working with HTML/CSS, creating interactive website elements with JavaScript, accessible web design to ensure your website meets accessibility standards

Web Development: Advanced Creative Coding (4 weeks)

Application Deadline: 2 weeks before start date

Teaching Dates: 17th April, 22nd May, 26th June, 4th September 2025, online only

Teaching Times: Evening, 6.00 – 9.30 pm

Teaching Schedule: 4 x 1-hour lectures, followed by 2.5-hour small group tutorials plus independent study

Content: working with HTML/CSS, creating interactive website elements with JavaScript, accessible web design to ensure your website meets accessibility standards

Introduction to Data Science: Programming with Data (5 weeks)

Application Deadline: 2 weeks before start date

Teaching Dates: 2nd April, 4th June 2025, in-person learning

Teaching Times: Daytime, 2.00 – 6.00pm

Teaching Schedule: 5 x 1-hour lectures, followed by 3-hour small group tutorials plus independent study

Content: setting up Python, basic data types and operations, automated data collection from the web, simple data analysis and visualisation, ethical issues around algorithms and data

Note: You can apply just for the Data Science module. However, the Data Science module is mandatory if you wish to attend the NLP module, as NLP builds on Data Science

AI: Natural Language Processing (NLP) for Creative Industries (5 weeks)

Application Deadline: 6th January 2025

Teaching Dates: 18th February 2025, in-person learning

Teaching Times: Daytime, 9.00am – 1.30pm, or 2.00 – 6.00pm

Teaching Schedule: 5 x 1-hour lectures, followed by 3-hour small group tutorials plus independent study

Content: working with and editing text in Python, using machine learning classification techniques, comparing text data using word vectors, working with pre-trained AI chatbots and adapting them for your own needs

Details: You can apply just for the Data Science module. However, the Data Science module is mandatory if you wish to attend the NLP module, as NLP builds on Data Science

On this programme, you will also have access to mock interview workshops, networking events and professional portfolio sessions. This support is an excellent opportunity to develop your employability skills and expand your network.

For this programme, all you need is an open mind and an enthusiasm for tech. You don’t need experience. You don’t need to have been to university. All you need is curiosity and to be ready to learn new things. Maybe you want a new direction? Maybe you want to upskill? Maybe you want a raise or promotion in your current role? Click Start gives you the head start you need.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, then it’s completely free. And no, there’s no catch. These courses are delivered by UAL in partnership with UK Black Tech in order to fill the UK’s digital skills gap. They are part of the Click Start programme, which is developed by the IoC and funded by Nominet.

At the end of your short course, you’ll receive a certificate of completion from UAL.

In addition to offering free training on the Click Start Peckham DAZ programme, we are offering a potential route to enrolment on our MSc Modular Programme.

If you take part and achieve a B Grade or above for any of the three sections, you will be eligible to gain learning credits for UAL’s CCI’s Computing and Creative Industry Modular Programme if you decide to apply. You will only receive the credits if you complete all three modules.
