The Click Start TechUPWomen programme gave me the resources, skills, and confidence to apply for jobs

Molly, a resident of Durham, embarked on her journey with the Click Start TechUPWomen with Durham University programme shortly after welcoming her third child into the world. Faced with the challenge of balancing her family responsibilities with her aspirations for a career in the digital realm, Molly found comfort in the flexibility offered by the programme.

“Crucially, the flexible delivery of the course allowed me to continue caring for my two young children, while pregnant with my third, giving me the confidence to explore careers in technology and support my growing family.”

Having previously worked in the world of recruitment, Molly couldn’t help but be excited by the well-paying tech roles she encountered. This ignited her desire to upskill and transition into the tech industry. While her initial aspiration was directed towards Data Analysis, Molly’s journey with Click Start led her to discover her passion for cyber security.

Equipped with a solid foundation provided by the Click Start programme and a newfound clarity in her career path, she continues her educational journey by pursuing further studies in cyber security at a local college.

Why We Need More Women Role Models in Tech

“After working in the recruitment industry and seeing many people go on to successful and well-paid jobs, I was interested in pursuing a tech career locally to me in Durham. The Click Start TechUPWomen programme gave me the resources, skills, and confidence to apply for jobs in data analysis at a time when I was unsure of the skills I required.”

In August 2023, Molly marked a significant milestone as the one millionth learner to complete an Institute of Coding programme, a feat celebrated far and wide. Today, Molly proudly serves as a brand ambassador for the Institute of Coding, using her experiences to create engaging social media video content. Through her role, she champions Click Start, shares invaluable career insights from her time as a recruiter, and inspires others to pursue their passions in the tech industry.

“I look forward to taking up a role in the North East in the near future, with the option for flexible working allowing me to balance my caring commitments and still enjoy a fulfilling career.”

Molly’s story is a testament to the power of education and the unwavering determination to pursue one’s dreams, even amidst life’s responsibilities.
