A new Coding Club launches on Monday and will run throughout February, teaching coding skills to Northumbria University final year and Masters students from all courses.

The free sessions take place Monday to Thursday, with students able to book sessions for one-to-one support in learning to code, or improving their existing coding skills.

It has been organised as part of Northumbria’s involvement in the Institute of Coding (IoC) – a national initiative supported by the government through a £20-million grant from the Office for Students. The IoC includes over 35 education partners and more than 100 industry and outreach partners that are working together to respond to the UK’s digital skills gap.

The Northumbria Coding Club is open to both computing and non-computing students alike. Beginners will be given an introduction to programming in HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, Python or similar languages.

Meanwhile computing students with existing skills will learn more about data visualization, machine learning, and mobile application development with Flutter. Materials for these topics can be found on the Northumbria IoC Blog.

Students wishing to come along to the club need to register in advance through the IoC Northumbria website. Once registered students can modify their booking as required.
