With an executive career in the software industry of thirty years, Jacqueline serves on the boards of a number of public and private companies and is a business mentor at the Merryck Group. She is a passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion and was a member of the government’s Post-18 Education Review. Received a CBE in Queen’s New Year Honours 2018 for services to International Trade in Technology.

Sarah is the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Enterprise at the University of Bath and a Professor of Materials and Forensic Engineering. She is a member of the Trustee Board for the Royal Academy of Engineering. Sarah was previously Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Executive Dean for the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Aston University. Sarah is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and Fellow of Royal Academy of Engineering. Professor Hainsworth was part of the research team that worked on the discovery of the body of Richard III at Leicester, working to characterise the weapon marks on the skeleton that allowed identification of how the King died on the battlefield – including the first use of micro-computed X-ray tomography in the analysis of tool marks in archaeological investigations. She was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2019 New Year’s Honours List, for services to Engineering and Forensic Science.

Craig graduated in Chemical Engineering in 1981. He joined Shell IT in the UK, and had multiple expatriate assignments in Colombia, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the USA over a period of 32 years. He spent five years as an Associate Partner with KPMG Consulting in the middle of his Shell career. His last Shell role was 6 years as Global CIO for Shell’s Downstream Businesses. After retiring from Shell, Craig joined Salesforce in 2020 working as a strategic advisor to its customers, partners and senior executives. In 2024, he became a founder and director of Veles Consulting. Craig is Chair of CIONET UK and has several other advisory and NED roles. Since 2022, he has been the Chair of the IoC’s Industry Advisory Board.

A recognised figure in the areas of diversity, tech, innovation and education, first as the UK CEO of Apps for Good and now as CEO for the Tech Talent Charter. Debbie was awarded an MBE in January 2017 for “Services to Digital Technology and Tech Development” and Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) named her Woman of the Year 2016. Debbie has also been named on Computer Weekly’s list of “25 Most Influential Women in UK IT” for the last 5 years, coming in at #3 for 2018.

Anthony is the Chair of the Institute of Coding’s Finance Advisory Board. He was Principal at Thomas & Company [accountants and tax advisers], and has now retired from this role. Anthony has a track record in starting, building, and operating businesses and not-for-profit organisations. He is currently Chief Executive of Be the Business, which enables small businesses to boost their performance and productivity. Before this, he was Founder and Chief Executive of Optimity, building it into a leading wireless internet provider. He also started Touchbase Networks, worked for WellInvested in Silicon Valley and founded not-for-profit organisations TechCity Stars and Tech-Up Nation. He chairs the City & Guilds Industry Skills Board and the IoC’s Postgraduate Artificial Intelligence Governance Board. He brings start-up, entrepreneurial and small business experience to the IoC.

Dave is a Senior Partner in Deloitte having begun his career as an Engineering Officer in the RAF. He is the Practice Senior Partner for Deloitte in the Southwest and Wales.

He is an experienced business leader and board member.  He has recently completed his second term as an elected member of the Deloitte North and South Europe Board and is in his second term as a Governor of the University of West of England.  He is also a member of the Governance Board of the Institute of Coding, is a member of the Industry Advisory Committee to the NCC, acts as a ‘Leap Advisor’ to the Earthshot prize, and is a mentor on a Team Entrepreneurship programme.

He specialises in delivering technology enabled business change, transforming organisations through the deployment of technology and innovative practices.  Dave has worked across all industry sectors, supporting many large and complex public and private sector organisations to realise their goals.

Dave is committed to delivering inclusive economic growth in the region and using his leadership position and network to ensure that nobody is left behind.  He is enthusiastic about creating opportunity for others and has been actively engaged across the skills agenda.  He has supported the Institute of Coding (IoC) since its inception, has been engaged in supporting FutureDotNow in fostering Digital Inclusion.

Locally, Dave has sponsored the Youth Summit in Bristol for the last two years where he has been a strong advocate and an active participant and is actively engaged in initiatives to address skills gaps in a number of areas.  He has supported an early-stage business (C-Coach) in the development of a human skills coaching platform to support career progression.  He pioneered the creation of Deloitte TechWorks in Bristol to provide career pathways for diverse recruits and is an active advocate for neurodiversity in the workplace.

Holly’s career has been focused on the expansion and access of online education. Currently, she is the Dean of Online Education and Professional Learning at the University of Leeds where she leads strategy for Leeds Online. Prior to joining Leeds, she was the Director of Partnerships at FutureLearn where she led a global, partner-focused, business development team. Holly has worked with a variety of US, UK and Australian universities to initiate online programmes as Solutions Director at Wiley University services and Senior Director of Academic Services at eCollege. At the University of Pittsburgh in the US, Holly was the Founding Director of Distance Education. Holly is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association at Salisbury University. She brings enthusiasm and a deep background in higher education and online learning to the IOC.

Julia’s mission at BCS is to give every young person the digital skills they need to succeed in life and work. Under her leadership, the Computing at School (CAS) teachers’ network has grown in influence and now has over 25,000 teacher members. BCS’ Barefoot scheme, which supports primary teachers with learning materials and lesson plans, has so far reached 3.3 million children across the UK. Julia played a lead role in establishing and managing the National Centre for Computing Education (NCCE), an £84 million government-funded programme to upskill teachers to deliver world-class education in computing in schools. In 2023, Julia was awarded an MBE, for Services to Education.

Julia is a Trustee of The Blackdown Education Partnership a Multi Academy Trust, in Mid Devon. Julia began her career in education 26 years ago as a teacher in Cheshire. In 2006 she joined Liverpool-based company, MGL, developing her vision for tech in schools, and how it could transform outcomes for learners. She joined Exeter-based South West Grid for Learning (SWGfL) in 2009, supporting its work on online safety and education. Later joining BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT in 2017, holding a number of leadership roles, and is now Managing Director, Education and Public Benefit.

Martin joined the University of Bath in 2007. In 2017, Martin was appointed as Director of Finance, responsible for the University’s financial strategy and operations. Martin graduated from Cardiff University in 1987 with a BSc (Econ) in Politics. He completed the Chartered Institute of Management Accounting examinations in 1990. Martin has a wide range of financial and management experience in Higher Education, manufacturing and distribution companies. As Finance Director of the Lead Institution, Martin also oversees the management and distribution of IoC funds across the Consortium.

Paul Fletcher joined Nominet as CEO in January 2022, bringing significant experience of working with a wide spectrum of members and stakeholders to shape and deliver strategy.

Paul’s career to date has focused on the interplay of technology and education and he believes technology has a huge part to play to improve social mobility. Paul was formerly CEO at BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT, a charity with 60,000 members and an agenda to make IT good for society. Prior to BCS, Paul was Managing Director of Educational Technology at RM Education and held a number of operational management and strategic consultancy roles. He was formerly a Trustee at the South West Grid for Learning.

Paul is an alumnus of the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program. He is a Fellow of the BCS and has been listed twice in the UKtech50 which recognises the most influential people in UK technology.

In 2022 Paul was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the University of Plymouth for services to Computing.

Professor Rachid Hourizi is the Director of the Institute of Coding (IoC) and has been in this position since the IoC’s launch in January 2018. The IoC is a successful national collaboration of more than 200 employers, 35 universities and 20 outreach partners that are working together to transform higher education and deliver new courses to help a larger and more diverse group of learners into tech careers. Prior to his current role, Rachid worked for ten years as a financial markets and commodity trader in London, Paris, Geneva and the USA, before taking up his first post at the University of Bath.

Sonal is a Degree Apprentice at Queen Mary University of London, working as a Software Engineer at Goldman Sachs. She is responsible for developing financial software applications to support front-office business teams globally and has experience in leading the delivery of critical digital projects while effectively managing senior stakeholders. Sonal sits on the Student-Staff Liaison Committee at Queen Mary and chairs the Goldman Sachs Apprentice Network. Outside of her apprenticeship, Sonal volunteers as a STEM Ambassador and with the Young Enterprise charity. Given her experience, Sonal is well positioned to bring a student perspective to the Institute of Coding, helping bridge the gap between university education and early careers in the digital space.

Professor Tony Clark is the Associate Pro Vice Chancellor and Deputy Head of College for Engineering and Physical Sciences at Aston University, Birmingham, UK. Tony is a specialist in Software Engineering with experience of working in the public and private sector including Marconi where he established the first AI toolkit in the UK, founding and running a spin-out software and more recently serving as a non-executive director of a technology start-up.

Margaret is the Dean of Online and Digital Education at the University of Leeds and a Fellow of the Centre for Online and Distance Education at the University of London. She is an innovative, people-centred, and strategic leader recognised for her enterprising approach and vision to pioneer new pathways for learners in open, online and digital education. Her career in education draws on her experiences of living and working in the US, UK and Austria.

Zainab is currently Head of Culture at the Southbank Centre working with teams across the organisation to bring together expertise in Inclusion, Internal Communications and Learning & Development to ensure a cohesive and intentional approach to organisational culture. Prior to this, Zainab worked in Graduate Recruitment and Diversity & Inclusion at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer supporting their UK offices. Her passion for equity and inclusion was sparked by her time as a secondary school maths teacher in East London as part of the Teach First Graduate scheme. Her cross-sector experience remains focused on creating workspaces that are accessible and welcoming to the talented but marginalised young people she had the privilege of meeting at the beginning of her career.

Cat Drew is the Chief Design Officer at the Design Council where she champions Design for Planet, bringing together practitioners from across the design economy to develop new regenerative practice and create the conditions for designers to do their best work. Previously, Cat has held leadership positions at FutureGov and Uscreates, was a co-founder of the UK Government’s Policy Lab, and combines 10 years of experience in Government with an MA in Graphic Design. She speaks widely about the value of design and co-presented BBC Radio 4 The Fix. Cat is member of the RSA’s Decolonising Design Commission, on the faculty of States of Change, and advisory boards for the Institute of Coding, the Well_Lab at Work and the Design Age Institute, and a member of D&AD’s Impact Council. She is a member of The Point People and a co-founder of the Local Government Innovation Network.

Most recently working with boards and executive teams, Charlotte’s career has been spent working across multiple industries bringing clarity and direction to technology decision-making to help organisations drive growth and efficiency through the most effective use of IT. Passionate about diversity and inspiring the next generation, the Institute of Coding is a great opportunity to participate in helping educators address the needs of industry.

Christina has spent 15 years working across the UK and internationally to drive connections between government, education and industry to develop long term commitments to bridge technology skills gaps. Currently the Head of Skills to Jobs and Cloud Education Business Development for Amazon Web Services (EMEA), Christina focuses on building national alliances between private and public sector to drive economic development, by enabling education to up-skill diverse entry-level talent and connect them to local cloud employers. Christina is passionate about supporting the IoC on its mission to prepare young talent for the growing number of roles within emerging technologies.

David is the Chief Digital Officer of John Swire & Sons – a privately owned conglomerate with significant assets across UK, Europe, the US and Asia. His role is to lead the global technology agenda across the Swire group of companies including the digitisation of existing and new business models. He is also a Director of Swire Energy Services. David joined Swire in September 2018 having previous held a number of technology roles in BP, including Digital CIO for BP Downstream and CIO of Castrol Group.

Derek has spent his career designing and building technology solutions for JPMorgan’s investment bank. His current role focuses on using that experience to shape their global technology talent strategy. JP Morgan think that great software engineering will be critical to all industries in the future and are passionate about building expertise and a great talent pipeline for it here in the UK.

Hugh Milward leads Corporate, External and Legal for Microsoft in the UK, sitting on the UK management board. His focus includes work to help organisations overcome legal and regulatory hurdles to their technology adoption and transformation, managing some of the complex geo-political issues relating to tech, and working to ensure no one is left behind from the onward march of technology. He advocates for Microsoft on a range of issues including privacy, cybersecurity, online safety, digital skills and sustainability among others. Hugh’s background is in politics, corporate affairs, and reputation management, working for some of the world’s highest-profile brands. Hugh is a Board Director of the New West End Chairing its Public Affairs committee, and a member of the Board of Directors of BritishAmerican Business. Hugh also chairs the CBI Tech Council and sits on the Advisory Board of the Institute of Coding.

Julie works at all levels of the education system in the UK and internationally, transforming education to support young people achieve their potential, and governments and business develop and access the skills needed for the economy. Passionate about how education transforms lives, through the IoC she is particularly focused on encouraging more young women to pursue a career in the digital economy.

Kate has worked at FDM for 10+ years, following a 17-year career in Higher Education. At FDM she has worked in a variety of roles from Graduate Recruitment and University Partnerships to the experience Consultants have on the company’s award-winning career programme.  Now Director of Consultant Talent and a member of FDM’s senior leadership team, she heads up the company’s apprenticeship programme which focuses on creating alternative routes into higher education and a career in technology and the Alumni Network which creates a professional community for Consultants once they leave. Kish is the CTO of an independent video games publisher, Kiss Publishing and has over 25 years of experience in the video-games industry, including 8 years at Sony PlayStation as Head of Developer Services just after the European launch of PS3 in 2007. He has worked as a technical leader at THQ, Acclaim and BBC Worldwide, as well as for Microsoft. Kish is also the founding Chair of BiG (BAME in Games), which advocates for more underrepresented ethnicities working in the video-games industry. He was listed as one of ‘The Top 100 most influential BAME leaders in UK Tech’ 2019 in the Financial Times; awarded the first ever ‘Diversity Star Award’ at the Develop:Star Awards 2019 and listed as ‘The Top 100 Asian Stars in UK Tech’ by Diversity UK in 2018. In 2023 he was as the ‘Top 100 IT/Tech leaders’ in the UK by Computing.

Scot Gardner has been Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Siemens Digital Industries since December 2020. Prior to joining Siemens, Scot held a range of senior sales and management positions at Cisco including Chief Executive in the UK and Ireland. Scot started his career in the Oil & Gas Industry before moving to Technology and start-ups. Scot is an holds a Master of Engineering from the University of Birmingham and is an Alumni of Stanford University School of Business. An engineer at heart Scot is passionate about STEM skills and is currently an advisory board member of the UK’s Institute of Coding.

Shilpa is a seasoned management consultant with 26 years of experience leading and driving technology enabled people-centric transformations in the Public Sector, with a specialised focus on Health & Social Care. A co-author of a BCS book on improving gender diversity in technology, she also leads the multi-award-winning Deloitte Women in Technology Network and is passionate about driving sustainable change and making the world of work truly diverse and inclusive. She is thrilled to join the IoC to help UK plc meet the growing demand for a broad and diverse range of digital skills.

Led offering management, design, development and delivery of the IBM Automation and AI portfolio supporting the corporation’s open hybrid cloud and AI strategy. Stephen also heads IBM’s largest European Research and Development campus based in Hursley Park. Andrea leads the operational delivery of the IoC’s projects and programmes from design through to evaluation. She manages the team of specialists within the IoC Central Team to ensure that all projects are delivered on time and to an exemplary standard. Andrea has over 20 years’ experience in education and training with a focus on provision and delivery of core digital skills.

Claudia is responsible for managing the project finances across all IoC programmes. She leads the development and delivery of IoC financial frameworks and processes, manage the financial functions of the IoC, and hold key relationships across the consortium with both funders and strategic partners. Claudia has over 15 years’ experience working in financial services across different organisations both in the private and public sector.

Tom has worked as the Head of Internal Audit for the University of Bath for 8 years, working independently to deliver scheduled audits and ad-hoc reviews across a range of the University’s activities. Tom is a Chartered Accountant and qualified in 2008 and has worked with a number of private and public institutions.

Amali de Alwis was previously the Managing Director at Microsoft for Startups UK. Before this she was CEO of Code First: Girls, a multi-award winning social enterprise that works with women, men, and companies to increase the number of women in tech. Outside of the day job, Amali is a Board member at ADA National College for Digital Skills, and Advisory Board member at the Founders Academy. She is a founding member at Tech Talent Charter and is a CommonwealthFirst mentor. She was recently named as “The Most influential woman in UK IT 2018”.

Anna is the CEO of Code First: Girls. Before joining CF:G Anna was the CEO and co-founder of Founders Factory incubated EdTech startup Frisbee. Prior to that, Anna was the Commercial Director of Lynda.com and LinkedIn. When LinkedIn acquired Lynda for $1.5 Billion in April 2015, she became part of the fourth-largest acquisition in social media history and subsequently contributed to the creation of LinkedIn Learning.

Darren is Manchester Met’s Director for the Institute of Coding and Head of School for the School of Computing, Maths and Digital Technology. Darren has a research background in Artificial Intelligence with a PhD in Artificial Neural Networks. Darren has led several large projects funded by Innovate UK, the Digital R&D Fund for the Arts, and the European Research Council. Darren also sits on the organising committee for the Manchester Raspberry Pi Jam and on the BCS Manchester branch committee.

Diane became the CEO of Business Disability Forum in February 2017. She was previously Director of Policy and Communications for United Response. Diane works with Government to shape disability employment policy and to share best practice. She is also a member of the Department of Work and Pensions’ Disability Confident Professional Advisers Group as well as the Disability Expert Advisory Panel for the Civil Service and the Diverse Leadership Taskforce.

Kerensa is BT Group Director of Digital Impact. Until recently, Kerensa was CEO of the Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award (iDEA), an international programme aiming to help address the digital skills gap. Kerensa was previously a TV producer and the BBC’s Head of Strategic Delivery. Her work on the BBC’s Make it Digital strategy earned the Innovation Enterprise Chief Strategy Officer’s Best Innovation Award. Kerensa is also a Professor, an Executive Coach and a bestselling author. She is passionate about helping people unlock their potential and has been selected among the most influential women in UK tech for the last three years by Computer Weekly.

Mark Smith was a member of the inaugural cohort of Teach First in 2003. Following this he has worked for Lloyds Banking group in the UK and South Africa, as well as helping to establish a school in Uganda. Mark graduated from Harvard in 2011 with an interdisciplinary Masters in Education before joining an education leadership charity, The Future Leaders Trust.

Molly is a keynote speaker as well as a usability and accessibility consultant, who specialises in assistive technology and design for those with sensory impairment. Molly is also the ambassador and advocate of Molly Trust, a charity set up to raise awareness of Usher Syndrome and of Sense, the deafblind charity. Molly has also written and illustrated two anti-bullying books, which have been published, and is a keen blogger, writing about her experiences with Usher Syndrome.

Neil Milliken is Head of Accessibility & Inclusion at Atos. His role is to help make the world a better place by delivering better technology for customers and staff. He is the Atos representative on the Business Disability Forum Technology Task Force and is also an invited expert for the W3C Cognitive Accessibility Taskforce & member of the Atos Scientific Community. He is co-founder of AXSChat, Europe’s largest twitter chat with a focus on Accessibility & Inclusion.

Sam is a Manager in PwC’s People & Organisation practice and has been heavily involved in Social Mobility Initiatives within the firm, as well as being leading PwC’s work on the City of London Socio-economic Taskforce. Sam is also an active mentor for people from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. In his spare time, Sam is a First Responder for the Ambulance Service and sees first-hand how people can fall through the cracks of society.

Steve has led the Age Diversity Forum for four years, developing and designing awareness, support and services to showcase the values of age diversity in the workplace. Steve sits on DWP’s Age Action Alliance Steering Committee and is a regular speaker for the age agenda. Steve’s initial career was in international banking, where he spent over 20 years, managing operational resources and assets across the global financial centres. He also spent 10 years initiating global programmes for the protection of vulnerable people groups.

Wendy was one of the very first computer scientists to conduct serious research in multimedia and hypermedia, and has remained at its forefront since then. She is involved in shaping science and engineering policy as well as education. She has held leadership roles on several national and international bodies, acting as an important role model and promoting the role of women in SET. Other notable roles include: President of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM); member of the UK Prime Minister’s Council for Science and Technology; founding member of the Scientific Council of the European Research Council and President of the British Computer Society.

Andrea leads the operational delivery of the IoC’s projects and programmes from design through to evaluation. She manages the team of specialists within the IoC Central Team to ensure that all projects are delivered on time and to an exemplary standard. Andrea has over 20 years’ experience in education and training with a focus on provision and delivery of core digital skills.

As the IoC’s Head of Marketing and Communications, Clea develops and implements the IoC’s marketing and communications strategy to ensure the IoC is nationally recognised. This includes leading the development and implementation of inclusive learner engagement and recruitment campaigns for the IoC and partners. Clea has worked for some of the biggest brands in the UK, leading on nationwide, multi-channel campaigns across the B2B and B2C landscape.

Francesca is responsible for providing executive support to Director of the IoC as well as serving as secretary to our Governance and Industry Advisory Boards. Francesca has over ten years of experience in Higher Education and four years of experience on successfully delivering training programmes to University of Bath students.

Claudia is responsible for managing the project finances across all IoC programmes. She leads the development and delivery of IoC financial frameworks and processes, manage the financial functions of the IoC, and hold key relationships across the consortium with both funders and strategic partners. Claudia has over 15 years’ experience working in financial services across different organisations both in the private and public sector.

Lewis is responsible for evaluating outcomes and impacts of IoC projects and programmes, communicating these to a range of stakeholders and placing them in a wider context. He leads on structuring the IoC dataset to ensure high quality data collection, developing the evaluation framework, and manages key relationships with external stakeholders and strategic partners across the consortium. With his background in Clinical Psychology and professional experience in NHS and Higher Education settings, Lewis has a track record of building relationships with diverse groups of people and using a data-driven approach to facilitate meaningful change.

As one of the Institute Coordinators, Lesley is responsible for providing administrative support and for the ongoing development of the Institute of Coding (IoC). Lesley has worked with the University of Bath for nine years as a Senior Administrator where she has provided project administration across a wide range of projects.

Joe’s role as Marketing Coordinator sees him supporting the Head of Marketing and Communications to ensure the IoC is nationally recognised. His responsibilities include creating engaging content for our social media channels, keeping the website up to date, and collaborating with our Brand Ambassadors. Joe has professional experience in both the Financial Services and Hospitality sector, with a personal background of music production and radio presenting.

Grace, a former biology teacher from Vietnam, moved to the UK and shifted her career to marketing after completing the TechUPWomen Click Start programme. Since coming to the UK, she has worked in a number of different roles, from social media assistant to digital marketing executive in industries like travel and hospitality. Now, she’s a social media manager for a finance company and a brand ambassador for the Institute of Coding. On weekends, you’ll find Grace out with her camera filming her own content and taking pictures with her friends.

With a background in PR, Megan made the leap into tech and is now studying a Human-Centred Artificial Intelligence Masters degree. Completing the TechUPWomen course gave them the confidence to switch careers, and they now share their journey to help others do the same. As an IoC ambassador, they hope to prove that anyone can succeed in the tech industry with the right support and determination.

Molly discovered her passion for tech while participating in the Click Start TechUPWomen programme at Durham University. She is now a Brand Ambassador at the IoC, dedicated to inspiring others to embrace digital skills and explore the opportunities available in the tech industry.

As a brand ambassador for the Institute of Coding, Sabiha combines a passion for tech with creativity to make learning about digital skills fun and accessible. On her YouTube channel, Sabiha documents her life as an expat living in the UK. She also connects with her Instagram audience through GRWM (Get Ready With Me) posts, where she offers a more personal look at her daily life and interests. Through content for IoC, Sabiha aims to inspire others to explore the world of tech and show how learning these skills can fit into any lifestyle. Her goal is to help others see the exciting opportunities that IoC courses can bring, just as she did when she completed the Click Start programme at Bath Spa University.
