Skills Bootcamp overview

The Skills Bootcamp in Data Engineering is a 12-week (Fast track) programme designed to train people into an entry-level Data Engineering role, the Skills Bootcamp includes weekly tutor-led online lectures and workshops, independent online study, 3 intensive half-day online events, networking, careers fairs, one to one mentoring, and motivation sessions, totalling an average of 16.5 hours learning per week.

Who is this Skills Bootcamp for

This Skills Bootcamp is designed for people with little to no previous tech sector experience who are interested in training in a Data Engineering role or self-employed people who wish to incorporate data engineering into their business. Applications are welcomed from those currently in employment and seeking to move elsewhere or achieve promotion, and those who have been unemployed for up to 12 months and are seeking to return to work.


The blended learning approach of this Skills Bootcamp makes it ideal for those needing flexibility, all independent study can be completed at a time to suit you with live teaching also recorded for those unable to attend live sessions.


Learners must:

  • Be aged 19+
  • Have the right to live and work in the UK
  • Agree to provide the mandatory personal data upfront and supplementary information on their employment outcomes for up to 6 months following completion of the Skills Bootcamp
  • Be looking for a new role, new opportunities, or increased responsibility/promotion to a different role that utilises the skills acquired through this Skills Bootcamp
  • Have  GCSE maths grade B (5) or above or an equivalent access to to FE qualification
  • Have a Bachelors Degree or equivalent (level 6) in any subject
  • Have some basic technical knowledge and skills, and be able to demonstrate an interest in technology – specifically data


Be either:

  • employed/self-employed, or
  • career changers/returners/redeployed, or
  • unemployed within the last 12 months


Employers will be able to send existing employees who meet the Skills Bootcamp eligibility requirements on this training at an impressive 70% discount. Interested employers should contact the individual Skills Bootcamp provider.


Applicants will be asked to take a critical thinking and maths quiz, with a guideline pass mark, this will not be mandatory but will be recommended to help potential learners consider their suitability for the Skills Bootcamp.

How has the Skills Bootcamp been designed/created with employer input?

At our inclusive, multiple award-winning TechUP we focus specifically on working with industry partners throughout the design of our Skills Bootcamps to make sure that our content is job-relevant. Our industry partners come together regularly as our Industry Advisory Board and take part in the programme as speakers during the course. We aim to ensure that our learners are on track with the right skills all the way through so that they are interview and job-ready by the end.
