Manchester – Monday, 3rd February 2020: Digital Her is the latest outreach partner to join the Institute of Coding (IoC) at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Manchester Metropolitan University is a key partner in the IoC, which is led by the University of Bath and supported by Aston University, Coventry University and the Open University, who are also in leadership roles.

The IoC is a large national consortium of educators, employers and outreach organisations that is committed to co-developing new courses and activities at the higher education level that will help a larger and more diverse group of learners into digital careers.

Manchester Metropolitan is the IoC’s lead partner for widening participation, and spearheads the consortium’s work to create accessible and inclusive digital skills courses, outreach to local communities and help people return to work.

Digital Hers’ mission coincides with the goal of Manchester Met and the IoC to improve inclusion and diversity within the digital sector. Digital Her is a programme from Manchester Digital, dedicated to inspiring and encouraging more young women from across Greater Manchester to consider careers in technology and digital. They have a number of different activities, including a Curiosity Camp for girls aged 13-14 that will be launching this summer, which will be hosted at Manchester Metropolitan University with the support of the IoC.

By utilising the benefits of industry mentors and real-world role models, Digital Her will provide the support, opportunities and guidance needed to empower a new generation of women into the digital sector. The programme will also equip those who are key influencers to this age group, such as teachers, careers advisors and parents, to help them make informed decisions about their digital futures.
