The 5th July 2019 is the second annual International Day of LGBTQ+ people in science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) or LGBTSTEM Day.

The first LGBTSTEM Day took place on 5th July 2018 and was predominantly an online initiative with support from organisations big and small. Check out the hashtags #LGBTSTEM and #LGBTQSTEM on Twitter to see the stories being shared today and to join the conversation. You can also check out the Pride in Stem website for more information and a list of resources: https://prideinstem.org/resources-2/

The IoC is a large group of many members and 33 university partners. Many of our university partners are hosting events and activities related to Pride this year. Here is a list of some of the events that you could participate in:

The University of Manchester is taking part in Manchester Pride on Saturday 24 August, and creating a banner for the parade:http://www.pride.manchester.ac.uk/getinvolved/

Students and staff alike from Manchester Metropolitan University are also taking part in Manchester Pride: https://www2.mmu.ac.uk/student-life/news/story/?id=10199 #McrMetProud

The University of Leeds is also celebrating LGBTSTEM Day with a lunchtime event for staff and students, where they’ll be marking the achievements and highlighting the challenges of LGBT+ people in STEM: https://equality.leeds.ac.uk/events/pride-in-stem-day-2019/

The IoC also includes several important outreach organisations, and is very pleased to count Stonewall as one of its partners and a member of our Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Board.
