Course overview

Industry 4.0 – technologies like AI and robotics – is disrupting everything. Now there’s such a huge amount of data available, businesses are striving to make the most of it to get a competitive advantage.

But to make better decisions and improve their operations, organisations need skilled professionals in these new technologies.

Our BSc (Hons) Business Technology gives you the skills to identify business challenges, find technological solutions, manage technology projects and services, and analyse business data. This is an area that’s always evolving, so we’ll also give you the tools to adapt to new ideas and new ways of working.

Discover your talents

With a wide range of topics, and the choice of optional units in other areas, you can really explore your interests. Business analysis, big data, app development, e-commerce – whatever you want to specialise in, you’ll have the chance to develop a strong knowledge base.

As well as vital business skills, you’ll also learn about some of the biggest technologies of today. Cloud computing with AWS, enterprise resource planning with SAP, programming languages, and databases all feature on the course.

Develop in areas that are in demand

Many organisations are struggling to make the most of digital technology. They know it can transform their business, but they don’t know how. We designed this programme so you can support and have the potential to eventually lead them through the digitisation process.

There is also opportunity to specialise in routes with more emphasis on technology development and data analytics, which continues to be in high demand in organisations.

Who is this course for

From Airbnb to Uber, the world’s most successful companies are using technology to change the business landscape. And with everyone competing for talent, business-savvy tech experts are in high demand.

We’ve designed the course to give you a broad range of knowledge and skills valuable for any modern company. If you do the optional placement year too, you’ll already have work experience when you graduate.

Our graduates are working with companies like:

  • IBM
  • Microsoft
  • NHS
  • Barclays Bank
  • JP Morgan Chase

With the broad range of topics we cover, you’ll have the right skills to look for work in many roles, from digital transformation consultant to web development. You might also like to consider postgraduate study or research in a specialised area like business analytics or supply chain management.

What will I learn

You’ll learn important skills during the core units on the course, including programming, system analysis, and data visualisation. You’ll even get to develop your own prototype e-commerce system. As well as the technical side of things, you’ll develop a real understanding of the business environment and how you fit in to the industry.

With units focusing on project management, strategy, or ethics, we want to make sure you become a well-rounded professional – and a valuable asset to any company.

Towards the end of the course, you’ll complete your own project. You could act as a consultant for a client. Or do some original research around an issue you’ve discovered. You could even develop a technological solution to an industry challenge.

With optional units you can specialise in a particular area – whether that’s web application development or data analytics.
