Course overview

Following successful completion of this course, a student should be able to:

  • Create simple but functionally complete JavaScript based web applications integrated with HTML5;
  • Be able to write well-formed JavaScript code based on a given problem specification that makes use of the document object model;
  • Understand the purpose of cookies, RESTful interfaces and URLs;
  • Understand the strengths and weaknesses of asynchronous programming and event driven applications.

  • This course is for first year non-computer science students at Lancaster University.
  • The course is free for all selected undergraduate students at Lancaster University.
  • This new course curriculum is for other major students with no prior knowledge of computing within Lancaster University.

  • How to work as part of a small team to undertake collaborative creative web design tasks.
  • How to apply the principles of computational thinking in the context of a web programming language;
  • How to apply problem solving skills to a simple specification in order to create functional web applications.
